Worshipers from the Calvary Charismatic Center (CCC), voluntarily donated blood to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) blood bank last Saturday,9th June, 2018. The gesture by the church was in honor of their treasured Pastor, Reverend Ransford Obeng who is celebrating his 62nd birthday this week.

Taking a cue from the daily admonitions from their General Overseer, the congregants patiently waited for their turn to donate blood. Numbering over Two (200) hundred, the members took time to go through the routine checks done before the blood samples are taken. With Ten (10) stepping aside for medical reasons, all members who thronged the church premises donated voluntarily.

The pastor, Reverend Ransford Obeng moments after donating blood, noted his delight at the opportunity to give blood. According to him, this is the little he can give to help those whose conditions at KATH required the giving of blood. He encouraged the public to emulate the gesture by CCC and help stock the KATH blood bank with blood to enable them attend to emergencies.

‘’I am determined to give blood while I have strength and I want to do so to show to the world that it doesn’t hurt to give blood to support the needy’’, Pastor Obeng noted.

The head of the transfusion unit, Dr Shirley Owusu-Ofori, Head-Medicine Transfusion Unit at KATH expressed appreciation to the church for its gesture. The gesture, she noted will help to ensure the blood bank is stocked to enable it to attend to patients needing blood for their conditions. The act of giving blood, she mentioned should be something done voluntarily by the public especially the youth.

‘’It is important that we cultivate the habit of giving blood voluntarily so that we help those who direly need same at the hospitals’’, Dr Ofori stressed.
